In a report by Inside Asian Gaming, Australian casino giant Crown Resorts has now received approval to open Crown Melbourne and commence operations with a “limited number of electronic gaming machines and electronic table games,” from this week, in accordance with health and safety restrictions agreed with the Victorian Government.
Crown Melbourne – which has been shut since 23 March due to the COVID-19 pandemic - has been given the go ahead to resume a limited number of electronic gaming operations with Victoria’s public lockdown restrictions eased.
“Gaming will be limited to VIP patrons in 10 designated areas with a maximum of 10 patrons in each area, and smoking will not be permitted. There will also be a requirement for every second machine to be disabled while no single patron will be allowed on the gaming floor for more than 90 minutes per day.” As per the agreed health and safety restrictions.

The group said it had reopened its Crown Towers hotel from Monday, while some retail and F&B outlets opened from last week.
In late October, Australian government’s financial fraud squad, AUSTRAC, launched an official investigation against Crown Resorts for potential breaches of anti-money laundering and counter terrorism financing rules. Crown’s Chairman Helen Coonan has conceded the company’s ‘ineptitude’ on AML laws.
