In a recent press conference with Barcelona's mayor Ada Colau, Spain's Minister for Consumer Affairs Alberto Garzon has showed his support for the city's 2019 regulations that stopped the opening of new brick and mortar gaming establishments and encouraged other municipalities to do the same.
The Minister said that the decision was a sign of the municipality's dedication to the health and well being of its residents, saying that this is an exmaple that others should definitely follow. He then also stated
“We need to increase security in this sector to protect consumers and warn them of the risks they face,” he said of the decree. "
The whole issue follows a year of opposition coming from governments all over the globe, not just spain, towards gaming advertising in the act of prohibiting sponsorship deals and limiting adverts.
