Resorts World Genting Malaysia has finally resumed operations following strict lockdown measures imposed by the government in mid-March as part of the efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
The operator said that visitors for the first half of July covered 50% of the visitor numbers before the quarantine restrictions brought about by the pandemic.
VIP and mass market have both contributed to the recovery for Resorts World Genting (RWG), even when only Genting Rewards Members are allowed to enter the property.
“Typically, some 70-80 percent of Resorts World’s visitor arrivals are locals, and there has been pent up demand for domestic tourism and gaming post-MCO,” the report stated.
RWG had increased their room offerings for the reopening as they went from 2,000 to 5,000 in the recent weeks. However, Genting Sky Casino and Genting Grand Casino has opened and are now operating at a 50 percent capacity to ensure social distancing measures.
Meanwhile, sales forecast for companies like Berjaya Sports Toto have recovered to 75 percent of the level before the suspension of operations. The firm said recovery may be seen towards the end of the year.
