EUROs Round of 16 - What are the odds?

Let's break down each match for the round of 16, including England vs Germany & Belgium vs Portugal

The last EURO group matches have all been played with the 'Group of Death' certainly living up to the hype. Hungary proved to be extremely unlucky to not make it out of their tough group that included France, Germany & Portugal - drawing with World Cup winners France, European heavyweights Germany and losing to a Portugal side lead by the one and only Cristiano Ronaldo.

On the other hand, Spain managed to scrape through their group with a massive win in their final group game vs Slovakia as they failed to beat Sweden and Poland previously.

The remaining groups saw the favourites all pass with no major shocks on the cards, however, the knockout stages are now upon us and there could definitely be a team or two who could spring a huge surprise, especially when we consider that none of the favourites really impressed during the group stages! Let's take a look at the upcoming match ups and who could really cause a major upset!

8. Wales vs Denmark

Wales - 9/2 , Draw - 27/11, Denmark 10/11

First on the cards is Wales vs Denmark. Denmark is clearly the favourite for this game, especially after their emphatic win in their last group game! However, Wales will be looking to emulate their previous EURO performance when they beat last tournament favourites, Belgium to reach the semi-finals were they were defeated, only just, by eventual winners Portugal.

Wales are certainly not a pushover when it comes to knockout games and they will definitely be a tough unit to crack! Expect a highly intense game with Wales aiming to catch Denmark on the break with Bale and Daniel James waiting on the wings!

7. Italy vs Austria

Italy 11/21 , Draw 33/10, Austria 38/5

Italy is the clear favourite here and will definitely look to increase their unbeaten record when they take on Austria. Austria are a solid team with David Alaba, Stefan Lainer, Marcel Sabitzer & Marko Arnautovic making up the spine of the team but Italy has impressed the most so far.

Expect Austria to set up defensively while Italy dominate possession!

6. Netherlands vs Czech Republic

Netherlands 8/11, Draw 3/1, Czech Republic 47/10

Czech Republic kicked off the tournament in style, spearheaded by Patrick Schick. However, their win vs Scotland followed a draw vs Croatia and a loss against group favourites England. This resulted in them finishing third and a matchup vs Netherlands. Although, its still a tough game, they managed to avoid Germany by losing to England.

Netherlands had quite an easy ride in their group, apart from the opening day scare vs Ukraine, however, they are looking to capitalise on their good form although they will meet stern competition in the Czechs.

5. Belgium vs Portugal

Belgium 8/5, Draw 12/5, Portugal 28/13

By far the draw of the round, or is it?! Belgium and Portugal are both heavyweights in the European scene. Belgium is able to boast a number of exceptional players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and, although he had a poor season - Eden Hazard still oozes class. With these players Belgium will definitely be a threat, however, their defence leaves much to be desired especially when comparing it to the previous Euros.

However, although Portugal is the underdog in this tie, anything can happen especially when they have a weapon like Cristiano Ronaldo heading the team. Portugal made it out of the Group of Death with a win, draw and loss. Ronaldo & co will definitely be hoping to not repeat their heavy loss vs Germany in the group stage!

4. Croatia vs Spain

Croatia 11/2, Draw 31/11, Spain 5/7

If this draw happened a few years back, this might of pipped Belgium vs Portugal as the tie of the round. However, both teams struggled in their group and left much to be desired in all their games. They both have a set of players that will be able to turn a switch on and perform at a high level. Both teams played exceptionally well in their last group game so let's hope those two teams turn up to the game!

3. France vs Switzerland

France 3/5, Draw 31/10, Switzerland 34/5

France euro football (1)

France is the clear favourite here. The World champions will look to make light work of Switzerland, a team that qualified thanks to the new "3rd place" qualification rule. I just do not see Switzerland causing a major shock here, especially due to France's depth which includes players that can change the momentum of a game at any given moment.

2. England vs Germany

England 17/10, Draw 40/17, Germany 2/1

Did I say that Belgium vs Portugal is the tie of the round? Introducing the REAL tie of the round, England vs Germany! This matchup is an instant classic and a rivalry to match. Any match between the two is always entertaining, with major controversy (such as Lampard's "ghost" goal that so clearly crossed the line but wasn't counted).

Be ready for two quality teams to go at it, end-to-end action and more controversy! England could cause an upset here, unless it goes to penalties - we all know the result when Germany go to penalties!

1. Sweden vs Ukraine

Sweden 17/12, Draw 23/10, Ukraine 27/11

The last match of the round of 16 involves Sweden and Ukraine. Although on paper it does not look as exciting as some other matchups, I think that this could actually be a great game of football to watch.

Sweden has been playing some quality football and Ukraine are a unit who play with passion and press relentlessly. Keep an eye on this game, it could actually turn out to be the game of the round!

Now don't forget - this is all just a bit of fun. As the saying goes, nothing is certain in life except for death and taxes, so do take our predictions with a pinch of salt. The most important thing? Play responsibly!
